The story follows after the first film’s events, with our hero Jake Sully navigating through the world of Pandora as his new life of the Na’vi species. Releasing on December 16, the stunning film brought in 401 million dollars before the start of 2023. 

3. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Being the first Marvel Studios film released in 2022, this movie brought mixed emotions to the audience as to whether they liked it or not. However, the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange didn’t disappoint with the non-stop action and hints of a dark, horror tone. Earning up to 411 million dollars at the end of the year, despite the controversial reviews, this film delivered the revenue it needed. 

2. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Released on November 11, this last Marvel Studios film of the year exceeded audiences’ expectations and wants for the franchise. With 436 million dollars in revenue between November and December, this is the second fastest-earning movie this past year in theaters, following right behind Avatar: The Way of Water.

Top Gun: Maverick is the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 Top Gun, once again starring famous actor Tom Cruise. Despite fans waiting over 36 years, this movie was by far the best cinematic masterpiece to hit theaters in 2022 and ultimately deserved the earnings it received. With 718 million dollars earned, this quickly makes this our number-one popular movie in the past year.
