Last season, in the NBA the Jazz was quite literally the worst team in the league. The Utah Jazz had the worst game win loss ratio, which allowed opponents to score the most points per game, and had the third highest point differential in the league. After such an unwatchable season, fans were hoping that the Jazz would be able to rebuild their team and have a rebound year. A year that is at least not as bad as last year.
Unfortunately, after game twelve of the year, things are already looking about the same as last year. The Jazz last year after game twelve were 3 – 9 and this year they are 4 – 8. Only a one-win improvement from last year. Last year our only wins before game twelve were all against teams who had a losing record and this year, we have only one win against a team with a winning record. And that team was the Phoenix Suns, and two weeks later they rematched with the Utah Jazz, and the Phoenix Suns dominated the Utah Jazz shutting down any doubt that the Jazz truly beat them.
The last time the Jazz were considered a “competitive” team with hope for a successful future was when Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert were on the team in 2022. But that all changed when the Utah Jazz felt that they had gained all they could from those players and that it was time to rebuild. And with that mindset, they decided to trade the 2 stars and get first round picks in return in hopes of picking up younger players.
So, why 3 years later is the Utah Jazz rebuild not working? Is it because we just can’t add good players to the team? Well, out of the 18 players on the roster, 12 of those players were first round picks, and 8 of those 12 were drafted in the past 3 years. That the majority of the Utah Jazz’s roster is filled with players that are numerous other teams felt had potential to be something truly great.
Although things are not looking good for the Utah Jazz, not all is lost. The Utah Jazz has acquired numerous first round picks and does have a comfortable amount of salary cap space left so there is hope for the future. It just might not be anytime soon before the Utah Jazz are successful again.
