Farmington High School’s drill team, the Nixelles, are three-time state champions!
Drill is a precision dance that performs highly synchronized, military-inspired routines. Drill is all about the three Ps: precision, power, and performance.
In drill you compete in three dances: military, dance, and show. Military, is a routine focused on sharp, precise movement. The dance category incorporates techniques like jumps and turns. Lastly, show routines typically have a theme.
In previous years for show, the Nixelles have danced routines themed around Joker and Pirates of the Caribbean. Many were amazed with the performance they gave.
This year’s show theme was rodeo clowns. The dancers had exciting makeup and costumes that went right along with the theme.
Farmington Nixelles spend a lot of time practicing during and after school.
“A typical practice looks like going to practice at 3:15 till’ 9:30 or 8:15, and we just do military, dance, show, and ,if it’s long, we will get dinner after,” sophomore Romee Bird said.
Though it is definitely hard work, spending so much time together creates a fun environment.
“The environment is we all encourage each other and we all work hard and support each other,” sophomore Hanna Beathers said.
Being on the Nixelles can be very rewarding from making the team, to trying out for dances, to competing.
“My favorite part about being on the drill team is the people and being able to bond with all of them and doing it for the team and the support system,” Romnee Bird said.
“My favorite part about being on the drill team is having 31 best friends around me all the time,” Hanna Beathers said.
Nixelles put in lots of work and spend lots of time together creating great friendships. They had an amazing season and can not wait for the next.
