This year’s NBA draft projections are the biggest talk in sports right now, and the biggest debate is who will be this year’s top pick? Draft experts have Kansas guard Darryn Peterson to go 1st overall. This has caused debate throughout college basketball because there are two other players who should still be considered; these players are BYU forward AJ Dybantsa, and Duke forward Cam Boozer.
Darryn Petersen this year has shined. He’s been averaging 19 points per game while shooting 40 percent from 3. Darryn Petersen has shown he can be an offensive threat driving in the paint, also with a dangerous 3 point shot. He has also proven to be an unselfish player who keeps his teammates involved.
Then there’s the problem: Petersen has dealt with injuries this season and Peterson has even been seen subbing himself out of games. Last week Peterson scored 23 points in 18 minutes then subbed himself out at the start of the second half against Oklahoma State. The biggest Question with Peterson can NBA teams trust in his availability? Peterson was asked about the recent criticism surrounding him
“It’s kind of normal this year. Somebody’s had something to say probably after every game this year, so I don’t really pay attention to it anymore.” Petersen said.
The Next prospect in the NBA draft is BYU’s AJ Dybantsa. Dybantsa is currently leading the country in scoring at 24.9 points per game while shooting 53% from the field. Dybantsa has proven himself as a dangerous scorer. He is a threat driving in the paint while also having a dangerous mid-range threat, also having a decent 3 point shot. Last Saturday Dybantsa was asked about his availability.
“If they need me to play 40 minutes, I’ll play 40 minutes.” Dybantsa said.
He has averaged 40.5 minutes per game over the last 4 games.
Another player in the conversation is Duke’s Cam Boozer. Boozer has impressed many with his great size, versatility, and the ability to impact the game both defensively and offensively. Peterson brings great guard scoring, Dybantsa dominates offensively, Boozers all-round talent is keeping him in the conversation
As the season wraps up we will see who will prove as the best option for the top pick. This year’s draft is considered one of the best draft classes in recent memory.
