The first games of the first round of the NBA playoffs are over, so what happened, which teams should be on your radar, and which teams should definitely not be on your radar?
Well first of all the number 1 seed Thunder destroyed the 8 seed Suns beating them 119 – 84 and ESPN only gives the Suns a 14.9% chance of winning game 2.
On the other end of the spectrum the other number 1 seed Pistons lost to the 8 seed Magic 112 – 101, but despite that ESPN only gives the Magic a 23.3% chance of beating the Pistons.
That upset was the only one and every other game the higher seed team beat the lower seed team.
There may be a chance that the Magic’s game was a lucky fluke, but either way they are also the only team to beat a higher seeded team so far.
The closest game and, percentage wise, the strongest matchup as well was and is the Lakers vs the Rockets. The Lakers ended up taking the win but only by 9 points with the score being 107 – 98. It is also important to acknowledge the fact that both teams are missing star players due to injuries. The Lakers didn’t have Austin Reaves due to an oblique injury and Luka due to a hamstring injury. The Rockets didn’t have Kevin Durant due to a knee injury. Austin Reaves and Luka probably will not be playing in game 2 or 3 as they need more time to heal, but Kevin Durant could be back as soon as game 2.
In Luka Doncic’s and Austin Reaves’s absence Lebron James had a fantastic game, which for him is nothing special I guess, with 13 assists.
